A Melting Glacier Globe

“Documenting the glacial destruction of the Pacific Northwest, Santino Martirano’s images highlight a worsening environmental crisis and its increasingly brutal effects”

— Fujifilm X US

“For Santino, his passion for photography began with the adventure of the great outdoors and, more specifically, the environment. From skateboarding to street snaps, he cut his teeth in external surroundings, and a deep-seated affection is clear.”

— Daniel Carpenter (writer)

“The graveness of the climate situation is rearing its ugly head once more. One thing’s for certain: this is more than urgent. It’s imperative, and something we all share a level of accountability for.”

— Fujifilm Exposure Center

In 2021 Fujifilm X US agreed to help me document the Washington’s glaciers. From Mt. Baker to Rainier I documented both on the ground climbing the peaks as well as from the sky. I wanted a view of Rainier outside of the climbing route where I could come back year after year to continue sharing their tragic story.
